Poem to Song

Have you ever read the poem “Big Yellow Taxi” by joni Mitchell or “Field Below” by Regina Spektor. These are both very good poems that are both about them missing nature. Big Yellow Taxi is about her home being turned from a area of nature to a city and kind of going against what the country is doing to help grow plants but kills a lot of other nature. Field Below is about nature basically being gone and how we are basically emotionally scarred from it.
Big yellow taxi’s mood is almost a semi happy mood but she sounds disappointed and the tone is kind of provocative because she kind of says to stop using DDT. The mood for Field Below is sad and the tone is regret. With big yellow taxi the song almost sounds happier than the poem but the tone almost seems the same. Field below the mood and tone sound way different because she almost sounds happier than in the poem.  It shows that you don’t always go off of things made after the originals because they could be way different.

This is just a say

“This is a parody of This is just to say but a version using the book Zach’s Lie. This is from Zach’s(Jack’s) point of view to the thugs Alonzo and his men that tried to kill them in the book. This is a cocky piece of him saying “forgive me” in a cocky way.”

I have beaten
you and your thugs
that were from
dreaded Columbia

and which
you were trying
to kill me ad my family
every second of the day

forgive me
for putting you
in jail don’t be
too mad when you get out.

Mother to son

This poem is about a mother speaking to her son in almost a persuasive tone saying that no matter what life throws at him that he just has to keep going the way she says it she almost has a soft yet firm tone because she’s saying it nicely because its her son but she’s also got the part of her talking that is firm because she wants him to get somewhere in life. One of the most important examples of figurative language in this story to me is “Life for me ain’t been no crystal stair” I think it is important because it is a strong message saying life isn’t easy but you can make it through it. I think this is very important because life can have objects that throw you off the right path but as long as you make the right choices you will end up okay.

Zach Osborne

Authors Note: this is a short writing piece to explain Zach’s lie from Zach/jack’s point of view.
I never knew what it would be like to change everything about myself but it happened when my dad got caught doing dirty business. When my mom found out everything got taken that they said that we had to join the witness protection program. Next thing I knew there were people there changing our looks at one point I had eyes as brown as soil next thing I knew my eyes were as blue as the ocean. My parents also said I was as tall as a tree but I guess that can’t be changed.

It also doesn’t help that someone came into our house in the middle of the night and scared us to death I think I was the most scared of all. I felt like there was something up when the wind crawled under my door. I don’t understand why it involved us though because I’m pretty sure a kid my age could help run a drug cartel and the same for my sister. I am also pretty sure my mom had nothing to do with this. Maybe this will turn out to be a happy story like the wizard of oz. hopefully this is all a mistake and my dad was unaware that all of this was happening hopefully…..

Alternate Chapter

Authors Note: This piece was written to create an alternate chapter in touching spirit bear.
I couldn’t believe it was that day the day I would finally be leaving the island. It is nice that I am leaving but I am definitely going to miss this place.
We got on the boat and everyone looked happy including me. Once we got back onto the mainland’s we went to a small airport that got back to my home city. When we got there the first thing I saw was my mom she was very happy to see me, although she must have been because she has pretty much been alone for a good half year. While we drove home we caught up on everything that has happened while I was gone and I shared about all of my adventures and she told me that peter was doing a lot better but still needed plenty of recovering.
We finally got home and it almost felt like a dream because I didn’t know if I was ever going to make it back here at one point. I ran into the house dropped my stuff on the floor ran into my room jumped onto my bed and just laid there a couple of minutes just staring at the ceiling, It felt like old times but yet I felt like a brand new person with a fresh start.
Since I was a whole new person I decided to go visit peter and tell him that I was sorry. So I told my mom that and she took me right away. When he saw me at first he seemed almost upset yet happy, after an hour of talking everything was repaired between him and I and I felt great.
By the time we got home it was late. So we ate our first dinner together in a year than I went to bed. I felt at peace and went bed thinking about how I couldn’t wait on what we were going to do tomorrow.

Touching Spirit Bear Quote

Authors Note: this piece is about a quote that Edwin said to Cole. This piece was mad to break down the quote and explain it.
Have you ever thought about the fact that what you do to others living things you do to yourself? Edwin in the book “Touching Spirit Bear” by Ben Mikaelsen tries to tell Cole this as one of the keys to surviving but Cole doesn’t follow it at least not at first.
This quote pretty much means what it sounds like which is that what you do to nature also leaves an impact on you. This is a great saying especially in this book because the island he is on has a very spiritual animal called the spirit bear The spirit bear in a way mocks him to so what he did to the bear or at least tried to he got it back but worse because the bear is almost six times as heavy. Another reason that this quote is important in the story is because he is exposed to the environment twenty four seven due to the fact that he burned down his only shelter along with all of his essentials like food.
Another reason this quote is important is because in ways we have a special link to the environment we live off of it and it lives off of us so when we aren’t doing that it could almost turn against us like the fact that the spirit bear mauls Cole. But once Cole goes back out there he had learned a lot more about life and once he respected it the bear was gentle to him. This kind of shows the respect that certain things need.
If Cole did take this quote seriously he also probably would have changed faster. Also he wouldn’t have almost died from the bear attacking him. But with that bear attackaing him he is pretty much changed for good if he wasn’t attacked he probably wouldn’t have changed much and would have hated both of his parents.
Although this quote is wise Cole chooses not to follow it right away which doesn’t really work out for him but he eventually learns to accept his problems and overcome them.
