Breaking Down the Life of Johnny

Authors Note: this essay is to show how Johny was stereotyped and about his life and what it led up to.
Johnny is the kind of guy who can be majorly stereotyped one minute and be exactly the opposite the next. In this essay I am going to analyze Johnny from the beginning to the end of the story and his life.
Johnny is a little more sensitive guy that is not too fond of the soc’s. He is like this because about a year ago he was jumped by a bunch of soc’s and he basically in a way cracked and became a little bit softer. When the greasers discovered Johnny in the empty lot all balled up and crying many of the greasers said they hadn’t seen him cry up until that moment. Johnny will do anything to protect the greaser from the soc’s because he doesn’t want them to go through what he did.
I honestly think Johnny is a dynamic character because he changed in ways in the end but he still was a nice person to begin with. I think this because he was jumped by the soc’s which made him a little softer but yet more aggressive. Which makes him not want to see any greasers hurt because of that he ends up killing bob because he almost drown ponyboy. Then they end up on the run which leads them to accidently burning down a church. When he saw this he realized kids were in there so he went in saved them and ended up in the hospital from being severely burned. In the hospital he was visited by his parents but he didn’t allow them in because of the way they always treated him. After that he was starting to pass away and before he died he told pony to stay gold and gave him a note which basically said to keep dally on the bright side of things.
Johnny’s actions affect the story because for one reason he basically becomes the exact opposite of his own stereotype. He does this by going into the burning church to save the children in it most of the other greasers said they would never do that. Another way his action affected the story was that he got severely burned saving the kids and had to go to the hospital. This made the greasers kind of mad not at him but at the soc's. He ended up dying later which made a few people go crazy like dally because dally loved him like a brother so dally went and robbed a store. Once he did that he called the greasers and ran back to his neighborhood and they all waited at the lot he came and so did the police. Then dally pointed an unloaded gun at the police and the police shot him.
This character is a dynamic character and evolved by first giving ponyboy a blade to protect him than he killed bob to protect pony. After that he went into a burning church to save the little kids. He also didn’t let his parents see him when he was dying because they treated him so bad. I honestly believe that a character from a different story very similar is napoleon dynamite because everybody called him a nerd because of his looks and didn’t really know him. But he slowly evolved and came out of his shell from Pedro. Finally at the end when Pedro was running for student president napoleon did a performance and everybody discovered he was a decent dancer so he basically went against his stereotype just like Johnny.
In conclusion I really think that Johnny is a good guy who was a dynamic character due to the events he witnessed and the way he grew up.

Stereotyping

Authors note: this is a writing piece to explain and relate to stereotyping.

Have you ever been treated different because of the people you are friends with or hangout with in the story “The Outsiders” by S.E. Hinton you learn the sometimes stereotypes can get you in a lot of trouble.
When you grow up you can be brought up around different crowds and you could either be like them or the exact opposite. With the greasers most of them were brought up as more poor kids except for Johnny Darry because he was a soc but then hid parents passed away and he had to take over his family so he became a greaser. As a point many people are very stereotypical and think things about you just because of who you hang out with. For example in the book “Among the Betrayed” by Margaret Peterson Haddix the young girl Nina is stereotyped and setup to see if she’ll turn in the shadow children as illegal third children because another kid lied and said they both worked for the population police even though only he did. This was very stereotypical in ways because right away many people assumed she wasn’t trustable just because of the words of another kid.
When talking about stereotypes I also think about the movie “Napoleon Dynamite” because in this everybody thinks and calls him a nerd even though they don’t even know him. In this movie it takes the whole movie to realize that he isn’t what they think he is although he dresses like a nerd and kind of acts like one people discover he has a talent. The talent that he has is that he is good at dancing. With this talent he was able help his friend Pedro become the class president and people discovered he wasn’t what they thought he was.
Stereotyping is something that real shouldn’t occur but it happens every day from who you hang out with to what race you are you can be stereotyped which can cause you to be stereotyped.

The Loss of a Friend

Authors note: this story is to give you a soc's point of view about the night that bob was killed.

It was nearly twelve o’clock at night when I got a call from bob. I picked it up and he told me to come over as soon as possible there was problem. So I snuck out and ran over to his house. When I got over there I could tell right away that he had been drinking. Then he told me he had found out that cherry was with the greasers and he had to go after them. I tried to calm him down so I told him we need to go for a ride. Than we went to his garage and got in to his mustang. Such a car the a nice blue that kind that could almost blend into the night from the light of the moon. So we left.
We must have been driving around for hours than we got to the park. I saw two kids that looked like greasers but I didn’t say anything next thing I know we pulled over.
Bob jumps out of the car and we follow when we get close I notice it’s the kids who were talking to cherry. They were verbally fighting but next thing I know bob grabbed the younger one and said wouldn’t you like a bath.
Next thing I knew he shoved the kids head into the ice cold fountain and held him under. Finally I realized that the kid was starting to drown. Sadly so did the older greasers I saw him pull out his blade. Next thing I know he was running at bob. Everybody was in shock next thing know bob was on the ground with blood coming out of him. The young greaser popped his head out of the water.
We bolted to the car and took off. By the time we got home we were so in shock that we just sat there. We sat there for about an hour. Then I called the cops and it was all over bob was gone.
