Comparing and Contrasting Jonathan and Ponyboy

Authors Note: this essay was written to explain the similarities and differences between the character ponyboy from the outsiders and Jonathan from the fighting ground.
Have you ever thought about that fact that people almost two thousand years could be alike? This essay was written to compare and contrast a greaser ponyboy from the 1950s and Jonathan one of the rebels from the revolutionary war in 1776.
In the first place one of the biggest things to compare is that they have both lost somebody closer to them. Pony lost a lot more people that he was close to than Jonathan. Death is something that could bring you together or tear you apart in pony’s case it tore him apart because he lost his parents and Johnny which were like family but he also lost dally who he was somewhat close to but not nearly as close to him as his parents. Jonathan had only lost somebody not too close to him which was his dad’s friend. The man watched his back but didn’t really talk to him whom I partially think he did that because he knew his father wouldn’t have wanted him to join but he did.
Second they also had a couple other bigger similarities but not as big as losing someone close. I honestly think there second biggest similarity is that they both experienced the loss of innocence. Jonathan started by going against his father’s word and joining the military and next he thought about killing the Germans in their sleep. One of the other big ways he lost was by waking up the Germans and telling them American soldiers were there. Ponyboy lost it by being in the scene when bob was killed although he didn’t do much, in ways he was an accomplice. The smallest similarity is that they both always had somebody watching their back. For pony it was his gang of greasers. For Jonathan it was the rebels who he was fighting with.
Although they have such major similarities they also haves some big differences. One of the most obvious but biggest one was Jonathan lives in 1776 and pony lives in the 1950’s. With that huge times difference there is also a difference in lifestyle. Like the way they dressed and the fact that the greasers had cars and the rebels had to walk. Another thing that really does separate them is that Jonathan had a normal family life with parents and all. But pony had a way different family life because his parents died in a car accident so all he has is his brothers which all take care of each other. Although they both have someone watching their back Jonathan has basically an army where pony just has a group of greasers who are kind of the outcasts.  Another small difference but important role in these stories is that the soc’s pony’s enemy would beat them up whenever they got the chance but jonathans enemy treated Jonathan very well when they captured him leading him to think he was on their side.
Although Jonathan and pony had their differences there were enough similarities to bring them together which almost makes me think that if they ever met each other they probably would be friends.

Piecing Together the Fighting Ground

Authors Note: this essay was wrote to inform you about the fighting ground's conflicts and how they were resolved.
The story “The Fighting Ground” by avi takes you back to the revolutionary war but  it has its twists that aren’t always the best for the main character like the fact that the soldiers were told that they were going to be fighting twelve British soldiers which didn’t sound like too big of a deal. Then the soldiers arrived to find out that it was thirty hessians some of the most elite German soldiers around that are known for their cruelty.
The biggest conflict in the story is the hessians fighting the Americans instead of the British. It is because instead of the rebels having a good chance of winning it makes their chances very slim. This conflict is solved because the rebels do end up beating them not by killing all of them but they fell back because they weren’t getting anywhere. This also lead up to a big conflict which was that Jonathan got scared and ran then three hessians chased him and captured him.
Once those hessians caught him they went back and tried to find the rest of the soldiers not realizing that they had left they thought that the hessians had lost the battle and that the rest of them were dead so they took him to an old farm. Where he discovered a little boy sitting in the barn. Later that night the boy decided to escape with the little boy. After walking for a while he found the rest of the rebels which made him lead them back to the farm so that they could kill the hessians. Once they got there Jonathan when and woke up the Germans trying to save them but they decided to use him as a body shield and try to get away. But Jonathan fought back and the Germans ended up dying.
In conclusion this story had a couple main conflicts but they were resolved pretty easily by the Americans. This teaches you that pretty much every conflict can be resolved as long as you get the opportunity

Different points of view

Authors Note: this is a writing to show how the point of views can be different from anybody else

In “The Fighting Ground” by     there are many twists that keep you in the book but also make up the whole story like the fact that what the rebels thought they would be fighting twelve British soldiers that they were fighting but it turned out to be thirty hessians which are one of the cruelest group of soldiers of the time. When the main character figures this out he gets nervous takes off and end up being captured by the soldiers. This story is written in Jonathan’s point of view because of this it puts a lot of hate towards the British and the Germans because of what he has heard and seen about the war.
Jonathan’s point of view influences the reader’s perspective because he lost a brother in the war so he doesn’t like the British. He also has an injured dad so he kind of has a mixture of wanting to and almost having to fight in the war. Once he hears those bells he went rushing to go join the rebels and was very excited but nervous because he didn’t know what to think.
The reader would feel different about the Americans if it was the hessians point of view. For example they are invading America because they are keeping the British as allies and don’t care much for the Americans. Also if it was a point of view from the Germans the reader might now more of went on during the battle and what those soldiers all went through
To prove my point the story can be seen a lot differently through different people’s eyes but it is also what makes the story. Without this point of view you may not have realized how brutal the Germans can be and how that time in that area could have been so every one of these characters are important

Among the imposters summary

Authors Note: This is a reviewand summary of among the imposters.
The book among the imposters was a very interesting book that had many twists and turns that kept you into the book to see what would happen next. This fiction book takes you into a different world that makes you appreciate what you have now. With every chapter things change and make the main character Luke develop.
This book in ways accelerates the story by taking Luke out of hiding straight to a school in front of many people whom he is not used to and is nervous people will find out his true identity. Later in the story he discovers he can take breaks from the school outside but later discovers other people also go out there. One night he follows them and discovers that there are other third children there. Luke later makes the dumb mistake to trust them and ends up with a very twisted end of betrayal and mystery. I suggest you read this book because I honestly think you will like this.

Breaking Down the Life of Johnny

Authors Note: this essay is to show how Johny was stereotyped and about his life and what it led up to.
Johnny is the kind of guy who can be majorly stereotyped one minute and be exactly the opposite the next. In this essay I am going to analyze Johnny from the beginning to the end of the story and his life.
Johnny is a little more sensitive guy that is not too fond of the soc’s. He is like this because about a year ago he was jumped by a bunch of soc’s and he basically in a way cracked and became a little bit softer. When the greasers discovered Johnny in the empty lot all balled up and crying many of the greasers said they hadn’t seen him cry up until that moment. Johnny will do anything to protect the greaser from the soc’s because he doesn’t want them to go through what he did.
I honestly think Johnny is a dynamic character because he changed in ways in the end but he still was a nice person to begin with. I think this because he was jumped by the soc’s which made him a little softer but yet more aggressive. Which makes him not want to see any greasers hurt because of that he ends up killing bob because he almost drown ponyboy. Then they end up on the run which leads them to accidently burning down a church. When he saw this he realized kids were in there so he went in saved them and ended up in the hospital from being severely burned. In the hospital he was visited by his parents but he didn’t allow them in because of the way they always treated him. After that he was starting to pass away and before he died he told pony to stay gold and gave him a note which basically said to keep dally on the bright side of things.
Johnny’s actions affect the story because for one reason he basically becomes the exact opposite of his own stereotype. He does this by going into the burning church to save the children in it most of the other greasers said they would never do that. Another way his action affected the story was that he got severely burned saving the kids and had to go to the hospital. This made the greasers kind of mad not at him but at the soc's. He ended up dying later which made a few people go crazy like dally because dally loved him like a brother so dally went and robbed a store. Once he did that he called the greasers and ran back to his neighborhood and they all waited at the lot he came and so did the police. Then dally pointed an unloaded gun at the police and the police shot him.
This character is a dynamic character and evolved by first giving ponyboy a blade to protect him than he killed bob to protect pony. After that he went into a burning church to save the little kids. He also didn’t let his parents see him when he was dying because they treated him so bad. I honestly believe that a character from a different story very similar is napoleon dynamite because everybody called him a nerd because of his looks and didn’t really know him. But he slowly evolved and came out of his shell from Pedro. Finally at the end when Pedro was running for student president napoleon did a performance and everybody discovered he was a decent dancer so he basically went against his stereotype just like Johnny.
In conclusion I really think that Johnny is a good guy who was a dynamic character due to the events he witnessed and the way he grew up.

Stereotyping

Authors note: this is a writing piece to explain and relate to stereotyping.

Have you ever been treated different because of the people you are friends with or hangout with in the story “The Outsiders” by S.E. Hinton you learn the sometimes stereotypes can get you in a lot of trouble.
When you grow up you can be brought up around different crowds and you could either be like them or the exact opposite. With the greasers most of them were brought up as more poor kids except for Johnny Darry because he was a soc but then hid parents passed away and he had to take over his family so he became a greaser. As a point many people are very stereotypical and think things about you just because of who you hang out with. For example in the book “Among the Betrayed” by Margaret Peterson Haddix the young girl Nina is stereotyped and setup to see if she’ll turn in the shadow children as illegal third children because another kid lied and said they both worked for the population police even though only he did. This was very stereotypical in ways because right away many people assumed she wasn’t trustable just because of the words of another kid.
When talking about stereotypes I also think about the movie “Napoleon Dynamite” because in this everybody thinks and calls him a nerd even though they don’t even know him. In this movie it takes the whole movie to realize that he isn’t what they think he is although he dresses like a nerd and kind of acts like one people discover he has a talent. The talent that he has is that he is good at dancing. With this talent he was able help his friend Pedro become the class president and people discovered he wasn’t what they thought he was.
Stereotyping is something that real shouldn’t occur but it happens every day from who you hang out with to what race you are you can be stereotyped which can cause you to be stereotyped.

The Loss of a Friend

Authors note: this story is to give you a soc's point of view about the night that bob was killed.

It was nearly twelve o’clock at night when I got a call from bob. I picked it up and he told me to come over as soon as possible there was problem. So I snuck out and ran over to his house. When I got over there I could tell right away that he had been drinking. Then he told me he had found out that cherry was with the greasers and he had to go after them. I tried to calm him down so I told him we need to go for a ride. Than we went to his garage and got in to his mustang. Such a car the a nice blue that kind that could almost blend into the night from the light of the moon. So we left.
We must have been driving around for hours than we got to the park. I saw two kids that looked like greasers but I didn’t say anything next thing I know we pulled over.
Bob jumps out of the car and we follow when we get close I notice it’s the kids who were talking to cherry. They were verbally fighting but next thing I know bob grabbed the younger one and said wouldn’t you like a bath.
Next thing I knew he shoved the kids head into the ice cold fountain and held him under. Finally I realized that the kid was starting to drown. Sadly so did the older greasers I saw him pull out his blade. Next thing I know he was running at bob. Everybody was in shock next thing know bob was on the ground with blood coming out of him. The young greaser popped his head out of the water.
We bolted to the car and took off. By the time we got home we were so in shock that we just sat there. We sat there for about an hour. Then I called the cops and it was all over bob was gone.

The Pride of America

America is one of a kind the country that has many rights and is allegedly free but yet in ways not. In this essay I am going to tell you why I am and I am not proud of America.
First I am proud of this country because we are freer than many other countries like Africa, and certain parts of many other countries where there are still slaves. Also we get to pick our leader unlike England and other places where the power is just anded down. But in ways certain people in America aren’t free because of laws. In ways laws are a good thing but not every bystander feels the same about America because of these laws.
There are also many things I don’t like about America like we are billions of dollars in debt. Because of this we owe many countries money and we are just becoming deeper and deeper in debt. While we are deeper in debt we can lose our countries allies. Also everybody says it is the land of the free but we aren’t really free. I think this because some laws forbid people from doing what they believe in or want.
In conclusion I am proud of the country but yet I am not. Because it is supposed to be the land of the free but it’s really not.

The Persuasion for Fun In Pewaukee

There aren’t that many things to do in Pewaukee besides hangout downtown. This is why I am trying persuading the city of Pewaukee to get a skate park. In this persuasive piece I am going to tell you some reasons why Pewaukee should get a skate park.
First of all Pewaukee doesn’t have anywhere to skateboard also if there is anywhere it’s prohibited. Because of this many kids who skateboard have no choice but to go to other cities so they can use their skate parks. Now that can be an issue because you need a ride and it takes twenty minutes or more just to get to a close one.

Many other cities have skate parks such as Delafield, Brookfield, and Milwaukee. It may be nice that Pewaukee gets one so that it’s updated and able to keep up with other cities. If the city is kept up that may also attract more people. Also like I said it would be nice and close so we wouldn’t have to travel far to go to it we could even walk. With that fact it is also a workout to get there and to skateboard.
Also a skate park in Pewaukee may bring in more business for many places. For example when people are done skate boarding they may be hungry or parched so they might go to get fast food or dine in food. They may also go to pick n save for food. Also they may go to Wal-Mart and get supplies such as wrenches to adjust parts on your skate board. They also may buy WD-40 to lube the bearings on your wheels.
In conclusion I think you should highly consider getting a skate park in Pewaukee. Because there isn’t much to do in Pewaukee, There isn’t anywhere to skate board in Pewaukee, Many other cities have skate parks, and It could bring some extra business into Pewaukee. This is why I think you should consider getting a skate park in Pewaukee.

Among The Imposters

Authors Note: This is an essay about a kid who’s trying to blend in, in a messed up world

There are people you think you knew better than anybody but then it turns out that they are exactly the opposite of what you think they are. In Among the “Imposters” by Margaret Peterson Haddix there many of twists that may surprise in ways you would think.

Luke was kid who had been hiding his whole life due to the fact that he was a third child. But one day his dead friend’s dad decides he needs to come out of hiding so he gets Luke a fake id of a kid named lee grant who died in a ski accident that his parents keep quiet. So to get Luke adjusted to a more normal world out of hiding they take him to Hendricks school for boys where he has to sleep in a room with six others who bully him every night. Not just that he also doesn’t know anyone there or what any of his classes are.

As for the the rising actions after a week into school Luke figures out that there is a door leading to the woods outside so every day he would sneak outside to escape from this odd environment around him once he gets comfortable outside he decides to plant his own garden to later find that it was trampled by a bunch of kids. Later he decides to stay outside and scout out by the time its dark he hears voices so he follows them into the middle of the woods which makes him end up listening in on their conversations and he finds out they are shadow children also. Then he over hears them talking about him so he doesn’t think and jumps out in front of them to confront them. Later he ends up being very good friends with them. Once he finally feels comfortable he was able to make it to his classes because Jason the leader of the group and the one who used to bully him hacked the main computer and gets his schedule. Later he decides he wants to actually try to do his big tests so Jason gets mad. And has a meeting without him. Which Luke didn’t care about.

Which leads up to the climax the night after Luke couldn’t sleep and he hears footsteps and finds out Jason left so he followed him. He eventually hears him at the end of the stairs talking on a cell phone which isn’t common around then. When he listens in he hears the shadow children’s real names and says no one knows I work for the population police o Luke panicked and threw the phone and attacked him with a book and ended up hurting him really bad. So Luke took Jason to the health room. Where Jason was captured by the population police who didn’t even say that he was a part of them and all of the shadow children didn’t even get caught.

Many things that you thought could never happen turn out to unfold right before your eyes. In among the imposters there were many twists that may surprise you a lot but I think it is a book worth reading.
